W3 Professorship for Immunology at the Institute of Genetics

The appointment is planned for Oct. 1st, 2025

Your responsibilities

  • Refinement of the research direction of the Institute of Genetics
  • Further development of our understanding of the immune system in the context of host-pathogen interactions and neuroinflammation
  • Strengthening the focus of the Institute of Genetics on host-pathogen interactions by incorporating existing research networks
  • Close collaboration with the TU Braunschweig research centres Braunschweig Integrated Centre of Systems Biology (BRICS) and Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ) as well as the local TU Braunschweig partners Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ), Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt. National Metrology Institute (PTB), Hannover Medical School (MHH), and the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF)
  • Content-related and methodological links to the other core research areas and joint projects at TU Braunschweig
  • Teaching at Bachelor's and Master's level. The W3 professorship should contribute elementary content to the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Biology and Biotechnology
  • Supervision of students and doctoral candidates

Essential selection criteria

  • Internationally recognised researcher with outstanding expertise and a strong and internationally competitive research profile in the field of immunology and neuroinflammation
  • Profound knowledge of host-pathogen interactions, neuinflammation, immunometabolism, or immune intervention
  • Profound knowledge of the innate and adaptive immune response in relevant disease models
  • Further development of the core research area "Engineering for Health" at TU Braunschweig
  • Active participation in national and international cooperation projects
  • Successful acquisation of third-party funding
  • Experience in setting up and leading a research group
  • Strong teamwork, management and leadership skills
  • Commitment to the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Biology and Biotechnology and English-language teaching
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with the TU Braunschweig research centres BRICS and PVZ and the local TU Braunschweig partners HZI, DSMZ, PTB, and MHH as well as content-related and methodological links to the core research areas and collaborative projects of TU Braunschweig and the DZIF
  • Commitment to increasing the internationalisation and international visibility of Technische Universität Braunschweig
  • Commitment in the area of diversity and equality
  • Involvement to academic self-government


Desirable selection criteria

  • Knowledge in the generation of novel relevant animal models or other model systems (e. g. organoids) is an advantage

International research and teaching experience, excellent command of the English language, as well as the ability and willingness to teach courses in English are a prerequisite.

  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Pedagogical aptitude
  • Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by a doctorate
  • Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) or through achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
