We offer a

W3 Professorship for Railway Systems Engineering - Operation and Railway Safety Technology

The appointment is for the earliest possible date.

Your responsibilities

The candidate(s) should represent the research field of railway engineering in the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences in an internationally visible manner.

Professorships in railway engineering are a cornerstone of civil engineering and transport engineering at TU Braunschweig. A sustainable railway system is one of the essential foundations of the common good. The infrastructure of the railway system and other track-based transport facilities are an integral and important part of the transport system. The long-term strategic development of an efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable transport system and the sustainable construction of transport facilities are core tasks of civil and transport engineering.

Possible research areas include

  • the development of innovative maintenance concepts to uphold and guarantee the timetable,
  • Digitalisation of construction and operations management performance and customer-oriented dimensioning of railway infrastructures, taking into account future control and safety technology
  • Development of optimisation approaches for the use of existing infrastructure, taking safety technology into account
  • Further development of safety-related functionalities for digital operations control system design, end-to-end modelling, operational analysis and optimisation of digital railway systems
  • Digitalisation and automation in the planning and operation of control and safety technology

The successful candidate(s) (f/m/d) are expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development (https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/hochschulentwicklung). In addition, the professorship is represented with courses in the Environmental Engineering degree programme. Active participation in shaping the research programmes ‘Mobility’ and ‘City of the Future’ is desired.

  • The successful candidate(s) will have a proven track record in science and practice and several years of professional experience. Academic excellence should be demonstrated through publication activity in international, peer-reviewed journals and through successful acquisition of third-party funding. Experience in applying for and working on projects from scientifically demanding third-party funding organisations is desirable
  • International networking
  • Practical experience in the field of railways can be demonstrated by taking on advisory, planning or management functions in projects as well as participation in standardisation or expert committees
