Fakulty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences
We offer a
W3 Professorship for Structural Analysis
The appointment is planned for April 1, 2026.
Your responsibilities
The appointee will represent the field of Structural Analysis within the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Sciences in an internationally visible manner and further develop the profile of TU Braunschweig in this area through innovative approaches. The professorship's basic and applied research should encompass the development of numerical methods for interdisciplinary consideration of the technical and economic performance of building structures, as well as the energy and resource requirements needed for this. In doing so, the position will make a significant contribution to the faculty's successful research in the areas of digitalization and sustainability in construction.
Possible research areas include:
- Numerical structural analysis under static and dynamic influences (especially fluid-structure interaction, soil-structure interaction)
- Modeling and simulation approaches for additive manufacturing, life-cycle engineering, structural aging under environmental influences, and shape and structural optimization, as well as the use of novel materials
- Further development of efficient numerical methods and real-time capable simulation models/digital twins
The successful candidate (f/m/d) is expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development (https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/hochschulentwicklung). In addition to the classic service areas of a university (research, teaching and studies, transfer, governance and administration), this applies in particular to digitalisation, internationalisation, equality and diversity, as well as knowledge exchange.
Our expectationsThe professorship entails the responsibility of heading the Institute of Structural Analysis (in German: Institut für Statik und Dynamik - ISD). In teaching, the appointee will represent the full breadth of the subject in foundational courses at the bachelor's level (in German) and in the master's programs in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Industrial and Civil Engineering (in German and English). Additionally, the professorship will contribute to key courses in the master's program "Computational Sciences in Engineering" (in English), which should be continuously and innovatively developed in terms of content and didactics, particularly regarding the use of digital methods, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of sustainability aspects. Active participation in shaping the research focus "City of the Future" and in the Center for Mechanics, Uncertainty, and Simulation in Engineering (MUSEN) is also desired.
We further expect:
- The successful candidate will have an outstanding scientific background and several years of teaching and professional experience. Scientific excellence should be demonstrated through publications in international peer-reviewed journals and successful acquisition of third-party funding. Experience in applying for and managing projects funded by prestigious organizations such as, e.g., the DFG (German Research Foundation) or ERC (European Research Council) is highly desirable.
- International networking.
- Enthusiasm for working with students, didactic aptitude demonstrated through successful teaching evaluations, and language skills to teach in both German and English.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Willingness to actively contribute to faculty affairs and committees.
- Teamwork and social competence.
Individual career decisions and career breaks due to parental/family care leave affecting research output will be taken into account by the appointment committee.
Requirements, § 25 NHG
- A degree in a relevant field
- Pedagogical aptitude
- Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
- Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) or through achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
