We offer a

W2 Professorship for Basics in Architectual Design

The appointment is planned for 1 October 2025.

Your responsibilities

The professor will be responsible for teaching basic design principles in the first year of the bachelor's degree program, making this a key role within the architecture department. The design process is crucial to architectural, technical, and constructive work.

This position is integral to the architecture department and requires an individual with strong leadership capabilities and a comprehensive understanding of design principles, as well as practical experience as an architect and their own architectural work. Additionally, pedagogical and didactic aptitude is expected. . The successful candidate (f/m/d) will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of students and contributing to the department’s research initiatives.

The successful candidate (f/m/d) will be expected to

  • Convey a foundational understanding of the design process while integrating the teaching content of all concurrent classes.
  • Lead the "Institute for Experimental Design IEX."
  • Foster project-based communication and the development of an independent design perspective with a focus on spatial quality and relevant social and cultural issues in architecture.
  • Further develop teaching and research formats with a multidisciplinary approach.

Essential selection criteria

  • Experience teaching architecture at the bachelor's and master's levels.
  • A substantial body of work, including publications, awards, exhibitions, and successful competition entries.
  • Practical professional experience as an architect with a portfolio of completed projects.
  • Leadership skills and expertise in design theory.
  • Willingness to contribute to the core research area “The Future City” at TU Braunschweig.
  • Ability to teach in English.
  • Willingness to participate in the self-administration of the university.
  • Commitment to enhancing the internationalization of the university and its research

Individual career decisions and career breaks due to parental/family care leave affecting research output will be taken into account by the appointment committee.

Requirements, § 25 NHG

  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Pedagogical aptitude, proof of this is to be provided by a teaching sample at TU Braunschweig
  • Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) or through achievements equivalent to a Habilitation, or outstanding architectural work in project planning and realisation
  • Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate, or the outstanding artistic work quali􀀃cation
