Your responsibilities

The professorship teaches theoretical basics, methodological skills and subject-specific knowledge in the field of design and construction in the context of contemporary architectural tasks.

The educational focus within the architecture programme is on teaching the basics of architectural design and the creation of space in the Bachelor's degree programme and conceptual and methodological approaches in design teaching in the Master's degree programme.

In addition, the expansion of architectural research is aimed for in this context. The main topics are:

  • Construction challenges for climate-friendly building and their impact on the design and design process in architecture.
  • Creation of contemporary building culture from architectural form
  • Social and climatic effects of facade designs in public spaces
  • Effects of spatial qualities (surface texture, proportions, lighting, etc.) on the users' sense of well-being
  • Interactions of architectural expression, form-finding and materiality
  • Architectural design in the context of social development and requirements

    Our expectations

    We are looking for a team-oriented personality with outstanding architectural work. Applicants should have a substantial architectural oeuvre in the design, planning and realisation of high-quality buildings. In addition to the special aptitude for architectural and scientific work, the applicant should be able to demonstrate a pedagogical knowledge.

    Furthermore we expect

    • Teaching experience through work as a research assistant or at least 5 guest critiques/specialist lectures at an architecture faculty. Staff member or at least 5 guest critiques/specialist lectures at an architecture faculty or a designated professional public event.
    • Leadership skills proven by management responsibilities in own company or managerial position
    • Outstanding oeuvre with completed building projects under own management; at least 2 buildings with award/recognition
    • Very good command of the English language and willingness to teach in English
    • Willingness to participate in the internationalization of the university and in research
    • Willingness to participate in the self-administration of the university

    As part of the development of teaching and research formats at TU Braunschweig, increasing interdisciplinarity is desirable both within the university as part of the joint research programme "Future City" and beyond. International experience in teaching and building practice as well as the ability to offer courses in English are an advantage.

    Requirements, § 25 NHG

    • A completed qualified university education
    • Pedagogical suitability, proof of this is to be provided by a teaching sample at TU Braunschweig
    • Outstanding architectural work in project planning and realisation
    • Qualification for in-depth independent academic work, which is usually demonstrated by an above-average doctorate, or the outstanding artistic work qualification
