W2 Professorship for Software Engineering for Safety Critical Systems

The appointment is planned for Oktober 01, 2025.

Your responsibilities

We are seeking a candidate with a promising track record in the area of system design and analysis for safety and security requirements. The following research topics are particularly relevant.

  • Model Checking,
  • Static Program Analysis (Abstract Interpretation, Data Flow Analysis),
  • Dynamic Program Analysis (Runtime Verification, Monitoring, Testing),
  • Solver Technology (SAT Solvers, SMT Solvers, Theorem Provers),
  • Programming Languages (Program Logics, Type Systems, Semantics),
  • Synthesis (Reactive Synthesis, Functional Synthesis, Correctness by Construction).


The position is particularly suited for researchers at an early stage of their career. Braunschweig offers a vibrant research environment in which Computer Science and the engineering disciplines closely interact, forming the university's core research area Mobility. The professorship will have the chance to contribute to the Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL), the Cluster of Excellence Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation (SE²A), and the Niedersächsisches Forschungszentrum Fahrzeugtechnik (NFF). Interest in interdisciplinary research is considered a plus, and so are industry experience and experience with acquiring third-party funding. Research experience at an international level (e.g. postdoc stays) is expected.


The professorship will take over basic courses in Theoretical Computer Science and contribute advanced courses to the Bachelor's and Master's programs in Computer Science, Computer and Communication Systems Engineering, Data Science, and Business Information Systems. There is a requirement to learn and teach in German within one year. An active participation in academic self-administration is expected.

  • Interest in interdisciplinary research, especially in interdisciplinary collaboration in the Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL)
  • Research experience on an international level (e.g. through postdoctoral stays)
  • Outstanding scientific results, proven by publications of the highest rank, scientific awards, etc.
  • Strong teamwork, management and leadership skills
  • Commitment to Bachelor's and Master's programs in Computer Science, Information Systems Engineering, Data Science, as well as Business Information Systems, especially with respect to undergraduate education in Theoretical Computer Science
  • International experience in teaching and research, very good command of the English language and willingness to teach courses in English
  • Third-party funding activities or industry experience are an advantage
  • Commitment to increasing the internationalization and international visibility of TU Braunschweig
  • Willingness to participate in the self-governance of the university

  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Pedagogical aptitude
  • Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
  • Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) or through achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
